Business credit cardholders are no strangers to rewards programs. Almost all business credit cards offer some type of rewards program in hopes of attracting new consumers to their credit cards. Competition among the credit card companies is tough, and rewards programs are often the way the cards compete with one another for new customers.

While most everyone is aware of the typical travel rewards program, or cards that offer a percentage of cashback for every dollar spent using the card, there are a variety of credit card rewards programs that are not as well known. There are also additional card features and benefits that come with most credit cards intended for business use that can make using a credit card to pay for business purchases and expenses advantageous. In fact, some of the following “extra's” offered by credit cards could be the primary reason you use a business credit card! Here are 7 little known rewards and benefits of credit cards:

1. Easily track and manage spending by employees. There is often a need for an employee of your business to pay for expenses or make purchases on behalf of the company. It can be nervewracking to hand over a credit card to an employee, especially with all the news about unauthorized card usage that goes on for years before detected and stopped! Selecting a business credit card that offers customizable limits on additional credit cards prevents problems. Not only is it easy to see how much the employee spends on the card with the itemized monthly statement, but you can also see exactly what is being purchased and paid for. You can set a monthly spending limit on each card, to ensure only business necessities are being charged.

2. Use the credit card as an advertisement. Many credit cards are now completely customizable in their design, and allow you to put your business name or logo directly on the card. Every time you take the credit card out of your wallet to pay for a purchase, your card can be seen by prospective customers. It may generate conversation about your business and open the door to marketing and networking opportunities. Think of your credit card as a miniature billboard!

3. Credit card rewards programs make great employee gifts or client gifts. Rewards programs often offer nice merchandise or gift certificates based on the spending on the card. You get these gifts at no additional expense to you, and can then use them as employee incentives, rewards, and client gifts. Package them up nicely with a thank you card and send them off to a deserving employee or client.

4. Travel benefits can save you hundreds of dollars each time you use them. In addition to the standard airline miles, there are credit cards that offer a free companion ticket for flights just for signing up for the card, and cards that provide travel accident insurance coverage and lost baggage coverage. These benefits don't seem like a big deal until you need to put in a claim. They don't cost you anything if your card includes them with the purchase of your travel arrangements; and yet they are worth thousands of dollars if you should need to use them.

5. Personal Asistance. Frequently offered as an extra benefit for business credit cards is the option of personal assistance or concierge service twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. Your credit card provides you with a phone number to call whenever you need help with driving directions or having your travel arrangements scheduled. You can request last minute reservations at a restaurant, or a gift to be sent to an employee or client. You can do all of this in the car or airport in between appointments, just by making a quick phone call to your personal assistant service via your credit card. It saves you time and money- since the benefit is included at no charge on most credit cards.

6. Car rental and rental insurance. Many business owners have a need to travel frequently, and an underused benefit of many credit cards is the ability to get discounted or free car rental service, as well as car rental insurance coverage. If your card comes with car rental insurance coverage, you can decline the coverage offered from the car rental company and save money when renting a car.

7. Gas discounts. With the ever-increasing price of gas, any method of reducing the amount of money you spend fueling up at the pump is helpful. Many credit cards offer rebates based on the amount of money you spend on gas or specific purchases.
